Yappy's MAME Project

Week 3

I ordered a trackball, which forces me to make my own Control Panel.  This is going to cost me down the road, but hey its all part of the Fun.  "Phase 1" of this Sub-Project will be getting the original Control Panel to work with MAME & Phase 2 is to make a Control Panel.  I got a lot done this week the machine is basically running smoothly (many hours of work)  About 70% of the ROMS work flawlessly.  Some Failed ROMS require specific Resolutions that I haven't tweaked out yet and others just don't work for some reason.

TrackBall arrived this is going to start a whole new ball rolling (Literally). I won't be able to use this with my old control panel I'm going to have to make a whole new one (PhaseII) .

Cost $50

I decide on also going the easy route and purchased an ATI RAGE II Cost $10 this is the most common used card for Arcade monitors.  Although most people are bragging about Trident 64.  I could make an entire site of what I went through to get it working but instead I'll just give you a link that I used for help:

http://www.clubi.ie/ogiee/mamehow2/software.htm

Buying that trackball has caused me to start a whole other sub project "Phase II", creating a new Control Panel so I bought an entire Jamma Kit.  Cost $66

Other purchases that will be needed for Phase II is wood, materials, & tools.  I just realized I don't need a Opti-Pac when the Trackball arrived.  It has the same connector Mini Din DB-9 as a mouse has.

NBA JAMS is No more!  I started the removal of the guts...(more to come next week).  I Pulled the Marquee out and old speakers out.

Perfect, one speaker was identical in size as far as mounting screws, But...

UH OH different sizes...  How will I ever fill that hole with the second little Creative Labs speaker.

This was pretty creative If I do say so myself...I found an old 3 ring notebook binder with a hard backing and cut it up.. check it out...

ALL DONE!  Screwed in and sounds great!  The woofer is in bottom part of the arcade Box as well as the volume control.  I'm looking into mounting that volume control knob on the Phase II control panel.
PHASE I is basically complete!!! I didn't think it would be that easy but J-PAC saves the day.  Pop it on and it works how easy was that!!!  Had hours of tweaking video though and I still don't have it all rights.  Marquee in place and ArcadeOS running.

My goal next week is to get the PhaseI controllers where I want them (Basically right now they were one P1 & P2 the two on the far left  Also I'd like to get all the NBA JAMs Guts out of there and mount the MAME box in there.   Once completed I can just move the cable connections over to Phase II Control panel when it is complete maybe in 2-3 weeks.  Extra 6 or 8 buttons on J-Pac's Aux ports are going to be used as well as the Trackball.

My Projected Control Panel (phase II)
